Handmade Shibuichi Silver and Copper Alloy 76.2mm Sheet, Hard

Crafted like the traditional Japanese shibuichi used to ornament Samurai weaponry, this hard 18-gauge shibuichi sheet is made by Phil Baldwin of Shining Wave Metals with a handmade silver/copper alloy (approx. 15% silver). The surface finish will vary somewhat depending on the homogeneity of each individual alloy batch and the appearance will also change somewhat as the metal is worked. The sheet is ideal for use with patinas and other metal coloring techniques. Hard silver/copper alloy is significantly work-hardened and, though it does not bend readily, it stubbornly holds its shape after forming; it is ideal for clasps and hinges. 18-gauge sheet is useful for pendants, mid- and narrow-width ring shanks and for cuff bracelets. As you know, metal sheet has as many uses as there are jewelers and designers who use it to achieve their vision; these suggested uses simply represent some of the more common applications of this metal weight. This sheet is stocked in 3" x 12" pieces; due to the cutting capabilities of the shear, the minimum cut is 3" x 1/2". The book, Traditional Japanese Patinas, is an ideal companion item with this special metal.
