This Peddinghaus large raising hammer features a slightly bowed head with two wide, domed rectangular faces designed to create seamless forms without thinning the metal. This larger hammer works well for creating small vessels, hollowware and sculptures where a heavier hammer is needed to form metal into a concave block of wood or a sandbag. Raising hammers are intended to be used in combination with stakes; the hammer is applied to the outside of the metal, forcing it onto the stake or other form. The hammer shapes the metal, leaving it relatively smooth (as compared to pieces raised with narrow cross-peen hammers).
