This Peddinghaus embossing hammer has two bowed faces of different curvatures and a highly polished finish that will not leave dings or scratches on the metal. Embossing (also known as repoussé) works metal from the back to create three dimensional forms. Use this hammer directly on the surface of hollowware and jewelry to produce dramatic texturing on flat or curved metal, to refine contours and to dome or stretch the metal. The two faces allow you to adjust the hammer to the depth and contour of the metal; start with the shallower face, then shift to the deeper face once you have achieved some depth. This hammer can also be used with steel stakes against wood, leather or other forms.
