This Peddinghaus large raising hammer features two wide, flat rectangular faces designed to create seamless forms without thinning the metal; this hammer is perfect for hammering concave shapes. This larger hammer works well for creating small vessels, hollowware, and sculptures where a heavier hammer is needed to form metal into a concave block of wood or a sandbag. Raising hammers are intended to be used in concert with stakes; the hammer is applied to the outside of the metal, forcing it onto the stake or other form. The hammer shapes the metal, leaving it relatively smooth (as compared to pieces raised with narrow cross-peen hammers).
