This round, rose-cut pyrite cabochon makes an eye-catching and out-of-the-ordinary centerpiece for jewelry of all types. Its distinctive brassy gold appearance, high dome and metallic sheen are well suited for highly individualized designs. Pyrite (or iron pyrite) is an iron sulfide that forms naturally in cubes or pyritohedra, which have 12 five-sided faces and are found in igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic rock. It has a brassy color with a golden sheen and black undertones. In days gone by, pyrite was known as "fool's gold" due to the fact that its resemblance to gold mislead inexperienced miners.
