Red Pitch

This red pitch provides firm support for chasing, yet is soft enough to allow embossing of a shallow relief using repoussé. It is is less toxic than black pitch and delivers better results. Place the red pitch in a pitch bowl and slowly heat in a a 250°–300°F oven; the melt temperature is low enough that you can safely manipulate and shape the pitch by hand after heating.
